Writer, Actor, and Executive Producer, The Big Sick, Little America, Silicon Valley | Opening Keynote
Kumail Nanjiani is an Oscar-nominated writer and critically acclaimed actor and comedian.
Upcoming, Nanjiani will soon be seen starring in the 20th Century Fox film “Stuber,” opposite Dave Bautista and set to be released on July 12, 2019, the upcoming Sony film “MIB” opposite Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Liam Neeson, Rafe Spall, Emma Thompson and Rebecca Ferguson, set to be released on June 14, 2019. Additionally, Nanjiani will soon be heard voicing the character of Plimpton, the ostrich, in the upcoming Universal film “The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle,” opposite Robert Downey Jr., Rami Malek, Antonio Banderas, Tom Holland, John Cena, Selena Gomez and Octavia Spencer, set to be released on January 17, 2020.
Recently announced, Nanjiani will star in the Adam McKay and Will Ferrell produced fact-based Spy action comedy “No Glory.” He will also star alongside Issa rae in “The Lovebirds,” the story of a couple on the verge of a break-up who suddenly become involved in a murder mystery. Nanjiani has also attached himself as actor and writer for an upcoming TV adaptation of “My Beautiful Laundrette.” Additionally, Nanjiani along with his wife, Emily V. Gordon, have attached themselves to the Apple series “Little America.”
On the television side, Nanjiani will reprise his starring role as ‘Dinesh’ on season six of the Emmy Award- winning HBO comedy series “Silicon Valley,” opposite Thomas Middleditch, Martin Starr and Zach Woods. Over the years, the series has won two Critic’s Choice Awards for Best Comedy Series and been named one of the AFI’s TV Programs of the Year.
Recently, he and his wife, Emily V. Gordon received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay for “The Big Sick,” in which Nanjiani starred alongside Holly Hunter, Zoe Kazan and Ray Romano. The film was named one of the AFI’s Top Films of the Year and twon the Critic’s Choice Award for Best Comedy, the Hollywood Film Award for Comedy Ensemble of the Year and an Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay. Additionally, the film earned two Independent Spirit Award nominations, a Producer’s Guild Award nomination, two SAG Award nominations, a Writer’s Guild and Gotham Award nomination. Nanjiani also earned the Santa Barbara Film Festival’s Virtuoso Award, the San Diego International Film Festival’s Auteur Award and was named one of VARIETY’s 10 Actors to Watch.
Additional film credits include “Fist Fight,” “Mike And Dave Need Wedding Dates,” “The Five-Year Engagement,”and “Central Intelligence.” His vocal talents were also recently heard voicing one of the ninja warriors in “The Lego Ninjago Movie” from Warner Bros. Additional television credits include: Comedy Central’s “The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail,” IFC’s “Portlandia,” TNT’s “Franklin & Bash,” FOX’s “The X-Files” and NBC’s “Community.”
